Future Vision: Where I see myself in 10 years!
This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming back Benjamin Ellis from Caistor Grammar for more work experience! About five months ago, Benjamin spent a day in our office, getting a taste of the various roles our team are operating under and the tasks that we are all managing. We were thrilled to have him back for a full week, allowing him to dive deeper into what agency life is all about, experience client meetings, and attend events. Each time welcome someone for work experience, we ask them to write a piece for our website. The follow article was written by Benjamin, after his week in the office, about where he see's himself in 10 years.
Where I see myself in 10 years
In 10 years, I will be 25 years old, and I would like to be working in a marketing agency. From my time at Knapton Wright so far, in the February half term as well as this week, I have worked mainly on the creative side of marketing... Back in February, I explored the world of Canva to a post for social media . This week I have been working on Canva again to create more social media posts and posters for a client, a job the agency team have tasked me with. Two different advertising tasks, which I have enjoyed a lot.
Also this week, I have been working on the Google rankings for Fred & Emily - a handmade jewellery brand based here in the Lincolnshire Wolds that the agnecy works with - and looking at similar companies to see if there is a market for personalised jewellery and ‘pick and mix’ options. I have enjoyed this as I have been researching into similar jewellery brands in the UK to see whether other brands are selling personalised jewellery or not. During the rest of my time here this week, I would like to see more of how google rankings work and what we can do to better them for clients. I would also like to look into how email marketing works and why it is useful.
When I first came in for a day in the February half term, I didn't really know much about other areas of marketing apart from advertising. After almost a week spent here at Knapton Wright, I now realise that marketing is a broad umbrella term for the many parts that are within it. From seeing some of the different areas, I have found that marketing isn’t just creating an advert for a company, it’s creating websites, email marketing, researching what has worked well for others, designing branding and more.
In 10 years' time, I think the world of work will have changed from the way it is today. I think in the future, marketing will be positively affected using AI technology. As AI becomes more advanced, it is likely that we will see better analysis of what works and research into a market e.g. we will have more detailed information about which specific demographics should be targeted for different products. AI will be able to complete this research more efficiently than a human, meaning that the human has more time to focus on making sure that the advertising and other parts look as good and are enticing as possible. This will be a big improvement as products will be more exposed to an audience and in a better and larger way. Marketing agencies in the future will be able to use AI tools to look at trends in the way people are buying products and what they are buying. It will be able to use this information to tailor to what a customer wants so the company will be able to sell the product better as they can pinpoint their target audience. On the other hand, AI could have a negative effect on the marketing world in the next 10 years as it could be used in email marketing to send a series of spam emails to customers which could deter people from buying products from these emails they receive from companies.
This week so far, I have really enjoyed my Green Nation one day festival task about an imaginary company hosting an eco-friendly festival in Caistor. I have been asked to create a marketing campaign for the company to promote their festival. I have done this by firstly creating posters and social media posts about the event including a little bit about what the companies' beliefs are, what will be at the event, how to get to the event in an eco-friendly way and why people should attend the festival. After this, I started working on a website for the company to promote their brand, the upcoming event and events in the future. I did this by using Squarespace, a tool for creating websites. The website I have designed contains an events calendar, a functional merchandise shop, a place for customers to leave a review through an email address I have set up (contactgreennation@gmail.com), a donations page and a section about the company. All pages are equipped with buttons and other click features that allow users to connect with exterior sites such as Gmail for reviews, Spotify to stream music featured in past events and a link to the shop’s basket where customers can purchase merchandise.
Overall, I have really enjoyed my time here at Knapton Wright so far this week. I have learnt lots about the marketing world from all the experts and I look forward to the rest of the week.
