2024 - a year of growth: The next phase of my apprenticeship journey

And just like that, another year is over. It’s hard to believe I’m now just three months away from completing my apprenticeship. Time really does fly when you’re having fun and what an incredible, whirlwind year it’s been.

Starting small: Dipping my toes

At the beginning of the year, I was still cautiously dipping my toes into the world of marketing. Everything felt new - whether it was understanding client needs, navigating marketing tools, or crafting strategies. Each task seemed like a puzzle I was trying to piece together.

I learned quickly that no two days in marketing are the same. From brainstorming creative campaigns to analysing the performance of a social media post, there’s always something new to learn and adapt to. In those early months, the key lesson was: don’t be afraid to ask questions. Marketing is a collaborative industry, and curiosity is your best tool for growth.

Diving in

As the year progressed, my confidence grew, and so did my responsibilities. Now, I’m fully immersed in the marketing world, taking on tasks that seemed daunting at first.

Looking back, 2024 has been nothing short of amazing. It’s been a year of challenges, growth, and significant achievements. Some highlights include:

  • Being shortlisted for Lincolnshire’s Champion Apprentice
  • Becoming a GLEP Apprenticeship Ambassador Being able to represent apprenticeships and share my journey with others has been an honour - which gave me the chance to reflect on how much I’ve gained from this experience and how valuable apprenticeships can be for others.
  • Conquering tough exams This year, I passed some of the most challenging exams I’ve ever faced, including coding, the principles of marketing and completing my IQA (Internal Quality Assurance) qualification. With the learning workshops behind me, it feels surreal to say it, but I’m nearly there.

Lessons I’ve learned along the way

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that marketing isn’t just about businesses its all about people. Whether you’re targeting customers, collaborating with teammates, or pitching ideas to clients, it all comes down to understanding and connecting with others, building and maintaining a relationship is such an important factor of the deal and there’s nothing better than feeling comfortable and being to communicate efficiently with some epic clients.

Another valuable takeaway in learning how to handle constructive criticism. In marketing, not every idea will land perfectly on the first try and I’ve made mistakes along the way in which I have learnt from, but feedback, I’ve learnt, is such a valuable opportunity to refine your work, and embracing it has been pivotal in my growth.

Time management is another skill I’ve honed this year. With so many moving parts in marketing, staying organised is crucial. Tools like project management software and daily to-do lists have become my best friends.

Every day brings new challenges, and there’s no better way to learn than by doing. From working on live projects to meeting deadlines, you’re gaining skills that are invaluable in the workplace. And of course, having a supportive team makes all the difference. The KW team has been incredible in guiding me, encouraging me to take risks, and celebrating my wins with me.

What’s next?

Since surprising passing my Internal Quality Assurance for my portfolio work quickly at the beginning of the December and with my End Point Assessment (EPA) now looming, I’m focused on finishing my apprenticeship strong. These final months are all about fine-tuning my skills, reflecting on my journey, and preparing for the next chapter.

If there’s one thing I’m certain of, it’s that this apprenticeship has been the best decision I could have made. It’s been challenging, rewarding, and filled with moments of growth.

To anyone thinking about diving into the world of marketing through an apprenticeship: do it. You’ll learn more than you ever thought possible, and the journey will shape you in ways you can’t imagine.
