World Energy Day | A call for sustainable solutions
From World Lazy Day or Talk Like a Pirate Day, there now seems to be a day, week or month dedicated to celebrating or raising awareness of absolutely anything and everything. And while some of the more ridiculous ones do tend to make most people role their eyes, some still have their place; especially when it comes to sustainability.
If anything makes us all stop and think about our behaviour, or act as a reminder, a gentle nudge to keep us on the straight and narrow sustainability-wise, then we’re all for it.
Valentine’s Day may take the crown for February 14th, but we’d argue that World Energy Day - also taking place today - is even more important.
Every year, World Energy Day brings the global community together to reflect on the pressing need for sustainable energy solutions. In 2025, this day is particularly significant as the world faces mounting challenges related to energy security, climate change, and the transition to greener energy sources. It serves as a reminder to embrace innovative solutions, foster collaboration, and prioritise sustainability in our energy systems.
How you can embrace World Energy Day
Whether you’re an energy professional or simply someone passionate about sustainability, there are many ways to get involved and honour World Energy Day 2025, even if you don’t do it on Valentine day…
- Learn about local initiatives: Explore renewable energy projects in your area, such as Grimsby’s offshore wind farms or hydrogen facilities in the Humber Estuary. Understanding local efforts can inspire action and foster appreciation for these advancements.
- Participate in energy events: Attend conferences and summits to stay informed about the latest innovations and network with like-minded individuals. Events like the UK and World Energy Storage Conference provide invaluable insights and opportunities for collaboration.
- Adopt sustainable practices: Make small but impactful changes in your daily life, such as switching to energy-efficient appliances, installing solar panels, or using public transport.
- Support renewable energy campaigns: Get involved with organisations like us as we work to raise awareness and drive engagement in clean energy solutions. Volunteering or contributing to these efforts can really help amplify their impact and reach.
- Raise awareness: Use social media to share stories, facts, and updates about World Energy Day and the events happening in 2025. Encourage your network to join the conversation and take action.
- Get talking: Engage with us to deliver talks or workshops in your school or business - if you’re keen to chat planet positivity we’re here for it.
A vision for the future
World Energy Day 2025 is more than just a day to raise awareness; it’s a call to action. As we honour the progress made in renewable energy and all the industries related to it, we must also recognise the challenges ahead and commit to working together to overcome them. Regions like ours, with all the progress being made in Grimsby and the Humber Energy Estuary, demonstrate what’s possible when innovation, collaboration, and determination converge.
Energy events to look out for in 2025
In addition to celebrating World Energy Day, 2025 is bringing several notable energy-related events in the UK that underscore the importance of sustainable energy innovation:
International Energy Week (February 25–27, QEII Centre, London): This week-long event will feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. The focus will be on global energy trends, sustainable practices, and innovative solutions. The event’s awards ceremony will highlight outstanding contributions to the energy sector.
UK and World Energy Storage Conference (Sheffield): Held over three days, this conference will explore critical topics such as hydrogen storage, electrical energy storage, and thermal storage. Supported by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council’s Supergen Energy Storage Network+ Programme, the event is a must-attend for those interested in energy storage innovations.
International Summit on the Future of Energy Security (April 24–25, London): Bringing together global leaders and experts, this summit will address pressing issues related to energy security and the transition to sustainable energy systems. Attendees will discuss strategies to ensure reliable, affordable, and clean energy for all.
Energy Innovation Summit: This summit will unite energy system innovators and decision-makers from across the UK. With a vibrant exhibition hall, networking opportunities, and sessions covering gas, electricity, and integrated energy systems, the summit aims to accelerate progress toward a sustainable energy future.
